Before I try to fix things, I'd like to know I'm fixing the correct things. My car makes a loud clicking sound (I'd describe it as something resembling a sheet of plastic against a spinning gear, if you can imagine that) when I turn sharply in either direction. It only really does it in parking lots or at intersections; I think I have about 60 degrees of leeway in the steering wheel before it acts up. Also, the rubber boot on the driver's side is actually loose on the wheel side, so that should probably be a pretty good indicator...
And while I'm asking questions, my check coolant light keeps coming on and I've noticed there's a hole in the firewall where it's all coming out. But the part of the cap with the censor attached is also kind of loose (It comes off when I try to open the cap sometimes), so I'm wondering whether that hole is a problem or if it's intentional for letting out any overflow (I do know my Mustang had a little tube at the top of the reservoir that would leak every time the coolant would boil from overheating, and I haven't seen the same thing on the Escort), which is happening since the censor keeps telling me to add more. Not sure which part is the problem, but the hole is directly behind some black cylinder thingy that's held on by a million bolts and I really don't want to have to take it off...

Sounds indicative of CV failure there. Do both sides.
Coolant issue: Hole in the firewall - heater core input or return hose possibly? Definitely check that out. If coolant is being forced out, you may be looking at core failure in the near future. As for the sensor part, could you provide a pic? A lot of cars have overflow tubes, but I'm not 100% certain if yours should.

The noise is almost definitely your CV joint, given how and when it happens, and how the rubber boot is torn. I had the same problem a while ago, just got new wheel bearings and joints and swapped them right up

Sure sounds like when my CV joints went south, but don't know about the coolant issue. Nibbles sounds like he has a handle on it though.
